When Mary Jane Lewis, old friend of Lucy Carmichael's, showed up in Lucy Carter's life, potentially blowing her witness-protection cover, they had to think quick and perform a lobotomy. This would explained why Mary Jane got daffier as the years rolled on. With each season she just got loonier and loonier culminating in her "I have a inner glow" recitation in "MJ's Boyfriend". Speaking of MJ, MeTV is running Our Miss Brooks and in an episode shown out of order from late in the 2nd season, she appears as Daisy Enright, Connie's rival for Mr. Boyton's attention. "Boyfriend" had to be MJL's finest hour, at least "Lucy"-related; haven't seen OMB in years and don't have any "stashed" (ahem) to refer to without further internet digging, but I may... but reading these recent posts just reminds me how WUNDAFUL and perhaps underappreciated her contributions were to the Lucy canon... do we know if she was ever even nominated for anything, be it Emmy, Golden Globe or any other award?? Well one thing's for sure and heartening and that's that Lucy herself MUST have seen MJ's gifts or she NEVER would have lasted as a co-star/guest performer over three decades. Yes, Mary Jane appeared in one episode, "Liz's Radio Script," as Margaret Baldwin, an old college friend of George's who judged the radio play contest Liz entered. This was the first time she and Lucy had worked together.
