  1. Cicely Tyson's great honorary Oscar acceptance speech:
  2. I really don't know. It was part of a Douglas Fairbanks Jr. retrospective, but I don't know if that was the main draw. MOMA has a large membership and frequent afternoon screenings, so maybe a lot of people just see everything there.
  3. I went to a surprisingly very well attended screening of Joy of Living at the Museum of Modern Art this afternoon. I loved hearing the murmurs of "Lucille Ball!" during the opening credits and Lucy's first appearance. My favorite audience member was the man behind me who said, three minutes before the end of the movie, "That's Lucille Ball!"
  4. I wonder if it's the original version. Since the movie underwent so much tinkering and many delays, there was a lot of footage cut. The DVD is edited. I wonder if any of Lucie's scenes were cut and, if so, will be restored.
  5. Speaking of Steve Allen: I remember shortly after this, I think Thanksgiving 1999, FOX News did some kind of Lucy panel discussion and Steve and Jayne were among the panelists (maybe Carole was too). Did anyone ever see this? I remember at the time people online were mad that Steve was included. I don't know if that was because of his comments at the Lucy convention or because he said something during this interview. I never saw this special. I only heard about it afterwards.
  6. I downloaded this and I planned to watch the first few minutes today, but ended up watching the whole four hours in one sitting. There are so many great stories and priceless clips. I especially loved the story about Mary Jane going on stage at the convention for the first time. Also the Ralph Hart clips and the My Favorite Husband recreation. The biggest shock was the photos showing Dick Van Dyke doing the audience warm up for the first episode of The Lucy Show! I hope Stu and Tom do another episode or two about the conventions.
  7. I love that "Lucy" is back on Broadway at the former Alvin Theatre!
  8. I could only listen to the first hour last night, but Carole is her usual hilarious self! I loved the Robert Osborne story, which was touching and hysterical.
  9. I can't think of any Here's Lucy mentions for the Quinn and Phil, but "Princess Anne and her new husband" get mentioned in Milton Berle is the Life of the Party.
  10. Here is a great new interview with Kaye that features some fantastic clips from her documentary!
  11. I was watching The Million Dollar Idea last night and never noticed before that the scene in the morning following Lucy eating all the pastries begins with Lucy holding her stomach and drinking a glass of water. 😃
  12. Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos, and Ryan Seacrest will be the Ricardos this Halloween.
  13. Yes, Bill and the other cast members were in blackface.
  14. An unnamed (and unrecognizable) Bill Frawley was featured in today's CBS Sunday Morning story on blackface. They showed a couple clips from 1935's Harmony Lane.
  15. WOW! Stupendous news! Since it's Warner Archive, I'm not holding out for bonus features, but I am very happy nonetheless.
  16. I just watched Look Who's Laughing for the first time in years. This is role is very much a step back for Lucy at that point in time, but she brings so much to it. Has anyone ever seen the sequel Here We Go Again? Is there any mention of Lucy's character, Julie, or is she just ignored?
  17. Lucy director and Desilu production head Jerry Thorpe has died at the age of 92. Jerry directed the first ten hour shows.
  18. Thanks for the recap! Interesting about the Aretha tribute. I wonder if they had reshot the scene in the premiere where Murphy's Twitter password is "Aretha Forever." The way that was played led me to believe it was after her death.
  19. I just watched an episode where Steve learns Spanish. Bub jokes, "I'm commencing to feel like Desi Arnaz's houseboy!"
  20. Carol will be introducing movies starring "Funny Ladies" Thursday nights on TCM in October. http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/1436502|0/Funny-Ladies-Thursdays-in-October.html
