  1. Nice tribute to Harold in the New York Times.
  2. Oh no! He was so wonderful as Martin Morgenstern and Miles Webber and in every other part he played. I met him a couple of years ago and he was terrific. I'm so surprised to hear this.
  3. Every year I hope Dick Van Dyke is included. Hopefully next year. There was a big campaign to try to get a Kennedy Center Honor for Carol Channing this year. It looks like it didn't work. If they gave it to her this year alongside Jerry Herman, they could have killed two birds with one stone. They could have done just one big "Hello, Dolly!" production number.
  4. Although "Lucy and the Guard Goose" might not be one of the better Life with Lucy episodes, I think it (along with "Breaking Up is Hard to Do") contains Gale's best performance on the series. Gale is marvelous in "Lucy and Uncle Harry's Pot," but he actually has a very small role in it. My vote would go for "Harrison Carter, Male Nurse," which, to me, might be the greatest showcase for Gale in the entire series.
  5. There was no formal Emmy category for guest actors during the Lucy years, but if you could nominate one guest actor per season, who would it be? I just did one per season, however the category nowadays is broken into male and female performer categories. These would be my nominations for Best Guest Actor/Actress: I Love Lucy 1951-1952: John Emery “The Quiz Show” (Sam/Harold/Julius… JULIUS?!) 1952-1953: Verna Felton “Lucy Hires a Maid” (Mrs. Porter) 1953-1954: Mabel Paige “The Girls Go into Business” (Mrs. Hansen) 1954-1955: Kathryn Card “The Hedda Hopper Story” (Mrs. McGillicuddy) 1955-1956: Mary Jane Croft “Return Home From Europe” (Evelyn Bigsby) 1956-1957: Eleanor Audley “Lucy Wants to Move to the Country” (Eleanor Spaulding) I didn’t intend for so many to be female character actresses, but Eleanor Audley and Verna Felton were the first people I thought of when I thought of award worthy guest performers. The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show: 1957-1958: Tallulah Bankhead “The Celebrity Next-Door” 1958-1959: Paul Douglas “Lucy Wants a Career” 1959-1960: Milton Berle “Milton Berle Hides Out at the Ricardos” The Lucy Show: 1962-1963: Charles Lane “Lucy Misplaces $2000” (Mr. Barnsdahl) 1963-1964: Michael J. Pollard (JUST KIDDING!)… Ethel Merman “Lucy Teaches Ethel Merman to Sing” 1964-1965: Ann Sothern “Lucy and the Countess” (Countess Rosetta Harrington Framboise) 1965-1966: Ann Sothern “Lucy and the Countess Have a Horse Guest” (Countess Rosetta Harrington Framboise) 1966-1967: Carol Burnett “Lucy Gets a Roommate” (Carol Bradford) 1967-1968: Vanda Barra “Lucy and Robert Goulet” (Waitress) Here’s Lucy: 1968-1969: Jack Benny “Lucy Visits Jack Benny” 1969-1970: Vivian Vance “Lucy and Lawrence Welk” (Vivian Jones) 1970-1971: Richard Burton “Lucy Meets the Burtons” 1971-1972: Ginger Rogers “Ginger Rogers Comes to Tea” 1972-1973: Vanda Barra “Goodbye Mrs. Hips” (Vanda Barra) 1973-1974: Jackie Coogan “Lucy’s Tenant” (Kermit Boswell) Life with Lucy: 1986-1987: Audrey Meadows “Mother of the Bride” (Audrey) Who would you choose?
  6. Since it's Emmy night, I was wondering if you had to select one episode from each season to submit to the Emmy committee for the Lucy cast members what would it be? 12. As Brock noted, Bill Frawley is in "Alibi Ike."
  13. I debated posting the Roman Scandals shot because I wasn't 100% it was Lucy. I finally talked myself into it. I never would have guessed it was Barbara Pepper! When I first saw that other photo, I immediately thought of Mame. I'm so glad you did that comparison, Rick. It's wonderful!
  14. It looks like he was doing a play on Broadway for part of 1983.
  15. Walter Winchell also did the narration for The Lucy Show episode "Lucy the Gun Moll."
  16. Thank you, Rick! I knew you would know the answer.
  17. Just found this website with more pictures from that party. It was Walter Winchell's birthday in 1953. I can see from the other pictures it is not William Powell.
  18. The man next to Betty above Lucy looks like William Powell to me.
  19. I was just about to post this too. It sure explains a lot. I'm glad Elroy said Lucy was nice. She certainly was being nice if she told him "Lucy the Superwoman" was funny. I think Elroy is also credited as cowriter with Bob O'Brien on "Lucy Gets a Roommate" and "Lucy and Carol in Palm Springs." It's interesting that Elroy and his brother are no longer speaking.
  20. I'm now in season two. One thing I've never noticed before is the differences in the sets after they changed studios for the second season. There are quite a few differences in the Hubbards' living room.
  21. Could it be "Lucy and the 20/20 Vision?" When Lucy shows Craig the contract that does not have the dotted line, she says, "See? Here," but her lips are clearly saying something else.
  22. This has been driving me crazy for 24 hours. I finally figured it out. "Not lately" is from "Lucy the Music Lover" in the scene in the music shop.It is Lucy's reply to Dr. Eastman when he asks, "You've heard Reiner conducting Rubinstein in Rachmaninoff's 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini'?"
