  1. Lucie joins Billy Stritch’s tribute to Mel Torme to talk about Main Street USA, Ginger Rogers, Liza Minnelli, and more! Starts at 37:00.
  2. Good question. I think the first time the baby’s name was mentioned was in the flashback opening of The Audition rerun.
  3. It was definitely interesting to see a two hour documentary about Lucy that had the 1950s end at the halfway point. Great clips! I imagine most the clips came from YouTube (it seemed like some of the I Love Lucy ones were HD). If this was 15 years ago, I bet all of it would be public domain stuff. It seems like once YouTube came along, they stopped policing these things. It was nice to see The Lucy Show praised so much. Here’s Lucy got the short shrift. I don’t think they mentioned the kids involvement at all. I also don’t think Gale’s name was mentioned, although he was seen in quite a few clips. They were pretty factual until the end when they said she died on April 25. 🤨 The overall theme seemed to be “Woman Power!” rather than then typical “Lucy & Desi love story,” although they did loop back to that at the end. Overall, this exceeded my original expectations. It was nice to see such time spent on the post-I Love Lucy years and in a generally positive way.
  4. Cher... and Other Fantasies, Cher’s 1979 special that featured Lucy, is now available on DVD as part of a pricy Cher box set from Time Life. https://timelife.com/products/the-best-of-cher I’m very surprised the Cher episode with Cloris Leachman and Jack Albertson isn’t included. Both guest stars won Emmys for their work in it.
  5. This review gives me much higher hopes than the initial announcement! https://medium.com/@herbiejpilato/we-love-lucy-says-new-2-hour-tv-doc-on-reelz-and-they-mean-it-cb027bfd0868

  7. Lucie and They’re Playing Our Song musical conductor Larry Blank reminisce.
  8. I assume this Reelz special will be a more low budget affair.
  9. Lucie is scheduled to participate in all star salute to Latino culture and achievement in theater on October 1.
  10. The Reelz Channel is airing a new Lucy doc on September 12. http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2020/08/25/reelz-adds-new-stories-celebrating-beloved-stars-of-comedy-music-and-movies-to-september-2020-lineup-575105/20200825reelz01/
  11. “Lucy, Legal Eagle” is the official title, according to the original script. https://www.historyforsale.com/lucille-lucy-ball-script-signed-circa-1986/dc226784
  12. I would guess it would be something along the lines of the Norman Lear Live In Front of a Studio Audience specials. Kate Luckinbill alluded to something like that in the podcast interview posted above.
  13. Allan Rich, who played the judge in Lucy, Legal Eagle, has died a 94. https://www.hollywoodreporter.c om/news/allan-rich-character-actor-who-overcame-the-blacklist-dies-at-94
  14. We’ve had little mentions of the Lucy & Desi documentary Ron Howard is producing, but we now have a lot more information! https://deadline.com/2020/08/amy-poehler-directing-documentary-lucille-ball-desi-arnaz-marriage-imagine-documentaries-white-horse-pictures-1203021502/ Amy Poehler will direct! I don’t think I’ve heard Amy (who I love) discuss Lucy before.
  15. Print interview with Lucie with some interesting updates on the Amazon movie, the Ron Howard documentary, a Lucy chain restaurant(!), and a possible TV reboot(!). https://www.onstageblog.com/profiles/lucie-arnaz-luckinbill
  16. A nice podcast interview with Kate! https://www.nprillinois.org/post/classics-lucy-desi-kate-luckinbill-conner#stream/0
  17. Strauss has written an article for Vanity Fair about the cheating of Lucy's "big-boned spouse." 😐 https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/08/the-legendary-marriage-of-lucille-ball-and-desi-arnaz
  18. I’m going to get it from the library because I don’t want to spend money on this book. I might be driven too crazy by the book to get through the whole thing. I know it’s “fictitious” or whatever, but I’m really tired of the narrative that Lucy was a washed up nobody before I Love Lucy began. Lucy was thinking about crawling back to Jamestown in 1949 because she’s an aging actress going nowhere? Ugh. 🙄
  19. The New York Times has an article about Lucy and Wildcat today. I don't think it's particularly flattering. Neil, I think you should write a letter to the editor! https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/31/theater/lucille-ball-wildcat.html
  20. The "We Love Lucy" episode of Will & Grace received three Emmy nominations today: Outstanding Directing for James Burrows, Outstanding Editing, and Outstanding Production Design.
  21. Truly the end of an era. It’s incredible to think how she outlived the co-star of her first feature film, “Much Ado About Nothing,” Ross Alexander, by 83 years!
  22. The only one of Valerie's series I had never seen before was her 1995 sitcom The Office. Two episodes were just uploaded to YouTube. I thought they were very funny, especially the pilot. Only six episodes were produced and only five of those aired. It was given the unenviable time slot of Saturday night at 9:00. I wish CBS gave it more of a chance because I think this show showed a tremendous amount of promise. Pilot: Episode #3:
