  1. Buzzr put together a nice compilation of some of Kaye's game show appearances: To Tell the Truth with Bette Davis from 1966, What's My Line? from 1969 (with Betty White!), and What's My Line? from 1973. The 1969 one is particularly fun and interesting. Kaye says The Mothers-in-Law was cancelled even though it was in the top 40. She was right - it was ranked #40, but the highest rated show to be cancelled that year. Kaye was currently filming the movie Lovers and Other Strangers and she raves about the project and every one of the cast members. Kaye was fired from the movie with the explanation she looked too young to play the mother. She was replaced by Bea Arthur. One of the many examples of Kaye losing out on a big break.

  3. A spectacular talent who had “IT” until the end. It’s one of my greatest thrills seeing her last show in New York in 2012. She was even better than I could have ever imagined.
  4. Our beloved Kaye Ballard has passed away. https://www.desertsun.com/story/news/2019/01/22/kaye-ballard-dies-at-93-rancho-mirage/2620474002/
  5. It's a bit hard to tell from her brief time on screen in Lucy Goes to Vegas, but it looks like Carole may have been given this Oscar winning costume from The Facts of Life.
  6. The teenager is implied to be Steven Spielberg and there’s more holes in that story than in Swiss cheese.
  7. There was a lot that was hard to believe in her book.
  8. A wonderfully in-depth obituary from Carol’s hometown paper with quotes from Lucie, Kaye Ballard, Lily Tomlin, Tommy Tune, and more. https://www.desertsun.com/story/life/entertainment/people/2019/01/15/broadway-icon-carol-channing-remembered-palm-springs-area-unsurpassable/2579332002/
  9. The legendary Carol Channing has passed away a weeks before her 98th birthday. There will never be anyone like her! https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_56a850f1e4b0f71799286ba1
  10. The Ethel Mertz robe made an appearance on The Lucy Show before its Here's Lucy uses! From Lucy and Viv are Volunteer Firemen:
  11. Muller has a timeslot where he introduces film noirs. Ben Mankiewicz is the main host on the network. Other films are introduced by Alicia Malone and Dave Karger, who in my opinion, is the best of all of them.
  12. TCM's Noir Alley showing of Lured was preceded by a very in-depth and fact filled introduction by Eddie Mueller. Mueller ended his intro with "Who knew Lucille Ball and George Sanders could be so sexy together?" (Zsa Zsa knew.)
  13. This fun blog post does a good job at identifying some of the stars who attended Lucy’s 1984 All Star Party. https://neptsdepths.blogspot.com/2019/01/seeing-stars-part-two.html?m=1
  14. Lucy Carmichael and Lucy Carter only smoked if they were playing a character. Lucy smoked a cigar in Lucy and Ma Parker (posing as Ma Parker) and My Fair Buzzi (playing Dallas Noonan). Lucy smoked a cigarette on a long holder in Lucy, the Wealthy Widow like she did in Lucy Goes to Vegas.
  15. If you have Amazon Prime, every episode The Doris Day Show is available for streaming there. Yes, the final season of The Doris Day Show was not particularly adult compared to most of the television landscape of that year, but it was compared to the first season of the series with the cute kids on the farm or its 1972-3 lead-in, Here’s Lucy. Kaye was no longer on the show in the last season. Billy DeWolfe was now the landlord.
  16. I’m surprised that I’ve never seen written anywhere how surprisingly adult the final season of The Doris Day Show was. There are occasional “hells” and “damns” in the script, Doris’ next door neighbors are a gay couple, and Doris is clearly intimate with love interests Peter Lawford and Patrick O’Neal. There’s one episode where Doris has a relationship with a younger rock star that plays more like a straight romantic drama. I think the two Rose Marie seasons (two and three) are far and away better than any other period of the series, but I do give Doris a bit of credit for going in an unexpected, modern direction for the last year.
  17. Good interview with Vicki about Carol: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/vicki-lawrence-how-carol-burnett-saved-her-job-1172651
  18. Bob Einstein, of “Super Dave Osborne” and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame, has died at 76. His father was Harry Einstein, Who died at Lucy and Desi’s Friars Club roast, and his brother is Albert Brooks. Bob also was the head writer of Van Dyke & Company, on which Lucy appeared.
  19. I’m mad to discover that one of the revival theaters in New York showed Lured for several days last month and I didn’t know about it!
  20. Yesterday I saw a screening of Easy Living at Lincoln Center. Another big crowd. The picture would have been so much more interesting if they had kept Lucy in the Lizabeth Scott role as she was originally cast. Neither role is really the type of role she usually played, so it would have been much more fun if she had played the bad girl. The happy ending where Victor Mature slaps Lizabeth Scott received uproarious laughter from the audience that continued as they filed out of the theater.
