I Love Lucy: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Sitcom, a new comedy from Gregg Oppenheimer (son of I Love Lucy creator-producer-head writer Jess Oppenheimer), will receive its world premiere as part of L.A. Theatre Works’ 2017–2018 season. The audio theatre season concludes with the world premiere of Oppenheimer’s I Love Lucy: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Sitcom (July 12–15). The comedy will tell the behind-the-scenes story of how Ball and Arnaz battled a network and a sponsor who didn’t believe the show’s potential. All regular LATW performances take place at the James Bridges Theater, located on the campus of UCLA in West Los Angeles. To purchase season subscriptions or single tickets, call (310) 827-0889, or visit LATW.org.
Just an hour before I read this news, I was watching a YouTube video of "Hello, Dolly" screen tests, in which Irwin played Horace opposite several actresses (Peg Murray, Joanne Worley) testing for the part of Gussie Grainger. (Skip ahead to 3:45) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpxThsiyHpQ Does anyone know how close/far Lucy came to playing Dolly?
CBS just announced this "new" Christmas special, airing from 8 to 9 ET/PT on Sunday, Dec. 7 Features two back-to-back classic episodes of the 1950s series, including the seldom-seen “Christmas Episode,” and an all-new colorized version of “Job Switching” (a.k.a. “Chocolate Factory”). Both were colorized with a vintage look, a nod to the 1950s period in which the shows were filmed. The main titles and end credits of the two episodes are seamlessly combined into one set—at the beginning and end of the hour, with no interruption between the episodes. (Rebroadcast) After last year's boffo ratings on a Friday night, CBS is showing real confidence by scheduling this one on the night with the most households watching TV.
