Carla Laemmle was a dynamic, sweet, soft-spoken lady that I had to good fortune to meet on several occasions. The fact that she was scheduled to be at an autograph show next month, showed her zest to meet new people. Here's a shot taken earlier this year with one of her close pals, actor/producer Tom Tangen.

Peace, dear lady.

Mary Rodgers, daughter of Richard Rodgers and composer of Once Upon a Mattress, has died at the age of 83.

Mary Rodgers is responsible for my favorite quote in a magazine profile. A few years ago New York Magazine contacted her to interview her on a story they were doing on Arthur Laurents. Mary responded, "Call me back when he's dead." :marionstrong:

Second World War hero (and Olympian) Louis Zamperini, subject of the upcoming film Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie, has died at 97. :( What a shame he didn't live to see the movie complete. He seemed so proud of it:

Dickie Jones, another kid in this number, died yesterday. He has a very impressive list of credits from a child actor well through adulthood, notably voicing the title character in Disney's Pinocchio: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0427934/

I know you would take issue with this Brock.  There's this website that said there were only five superstar legends still alive and it listed Olivia De Havilland and Kirk Douglas as well as two others, now that Bacall had just died.  But he refuses to include Luise Reiner saying nobody would know of her event though she's like 104 or something and has two Oscars.  When I mentioned this to someone, they said, what about Bette White, but I think he's only listing superstar MOVIE star legends from the olden days.

Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire, the last surviving Mitford Sister, died today at 94. :( :( :(

If you haven't already done so, read "The Sisters" by Mary S. Lovell -- one of the juiciest historical bios ever, focusing on Deborah and her five sisters. Books of their letters are also great, hilarious reads too, complete with cameos from just about all the who's-who of the 20th century, including a lot of Kennedys. (Deborah was Kathleen Kennedy's sister-in-law and a good friend of JFK. Not so much Jackie, however.)
