OTHER FAMOUS PEOPLE WHO DIED

Actor Martin Milner has died at 83. He featured in Desi's pilot Land's End.

He almost appeared on HERE'S LUCY -- at least if one can believe the rumors... The story I heard was that when Lucille Ball Productions moved from Paramount over to Universal Studios, the HERE'S LUCY writers hoped to include some of the Universal stars in some of the episodes, much as they had at Desilu/Paramount... They envisioned Robert Young (Marcus Welby) in "Lucy's Big Break," and Martin Milner and Alex McCord (from Adam 12) for "Lucy Plays Cops and Robbers."  Am not sure what scotched the plans, other than the fact that most of the Universal shows were not CBS, and certainly not owned in any way, shape or form by LBP... So the series never did engage in the "cross-studio pollination" that the writers were thinking about... I guess we file this under "what coulda been."

Tom:  Thanks SO MUCH for this tid-bit; just the sort of thing should be included in upcoming chronology....I appreciate it.  Joyce :fabrary:

The actual Adam 12 guys would have added a kick to "Cops and Robbers".  Even better would have been Webb and Morgan from Dragnet.  I've been DVR'ing Cozi's Dragnet shows and love it....for all the wrong reasons.  It's so awful, it's enjoyable.  Even veteran guest actors come across like amateurs.  I especially love the Dragnet formula..when Friday says "There's one more thing".  The other character always says "What's that?" and then Friday delivers a zinger, the music swells, they cut to wide shot and everybody walks out of the frame without saying another word.

I can see Robert Young in "Break" but Lloyd Bridges was great.

"Dirty Gertie" seems like it was written for Jack Webb with all those "just the facts, ma'am" lines.  I've never seen Peter Gunn. Was Craig Stevens doing his deadpan character from that?

The lovely Joan Leslie has died at the age of 90, most classic film fans will remember her for starring alongside Humphrey Bogart in "High Sierra" (1941) and James Cagney in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1942). She was one of my favorite actresses from that era, I remember TCM featuring her as the star of the month in June 2009. every friday I watched 4 of her films, becoming a fan in the process.
