leenorman Posted December 31, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 31, 2012 On the occasion of HIS birthday: b. 12/31/1897 d. 2/27/64 Orry-Kelly, 3-time Academy Award-winning costume designer, 296 titles; Studied art in Australia, then sailed to NY; a job painting murals in a nightclub lead to work designing titles for Fox East Coast studios. Went to Hollywood in 1932; worked at Warner Brothers First National Studios before moving on to Universal, RKO, Fox, and MGM. Designed costumes for many great actresses; gowns, William Frawley (Lucy's Fred Mertz) films, The Bride Came C.O.D., 1941, and Mother Wore Tights, 1947; is born this date in 1897.
