Colorized "I Love Lucy" DVD set for Nov. 5, CBS Special airs Dec. 20

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't mind a dvd volume each month in color, remember how they originally released season 1 in volume sets? I wouldn't mind getting like 7 episodes per month in color and then eventually a complete dvd set.

That's what i'm talkin bout!  Would give us something new to look forward to.  Just release them all before I die, tis all.

could you do a still of the Ricardo bedroom in Lucy Fakes Illness, with the green lighted lamp and the balloons? Or some color season 1 TLS stills?

or the Fashion show? Don Loper does say what color the dresses are, and we have a color still of the Antenna episode. Someone needs to colorize the Professor scene from the Audition since we have color footage of that.

Anyway I'll have to put this on my Christmas list. :D So glad they re-colorized it, from the bright green couch and brown walls and blue kitchen, to the grayish-blue walls and blue couch and yellow kitchen, but I thought their outfits would be different too. And the lights are still a red and white. And I thought the walls were a little bit bluer than that. But I drained the color from the images and it looks exactly like it should in black and white so that has to be the correct coloring. Imagine if we had internet back in the 50s but still only had black and white TV and black and white film, we could bombard people who went to the tapings to tell us what color everything was.

Also, wasn't there a color special with the cast, featuring Bob Hope? And the spouses were switched around?

That was a Bob Hope show but it wasn't in color. I get a kick out of that routine, espically Viv.

No, they did colorize that special along with the tour of the studios in this DVD- HERE .

I know they colorized the tour, had no idea they did Bob too. So this was just a gimmick to repackage the public domain stuff. I was wondering who was behind this as it seemed like an odd thing to colorize.

It also has one of her appearances on I've Got a Secret and the Victor Borge pilot with Gale that Desi directed. Both colorized. It was also done by Legend films.

Weren't all of those on a special LUCY lost tape?

My set finally arrived! I like the new menu. lol

The colourization of "Scotland" remains the best of the lot, and the "Christmas' episode looks much better in this edition, but the first two acts of "Italian Movie" look awful. If CBS wants this to catch on, I'd flip that out and put Scotland in the Special.

It's a Christmas special, not a promotional tour of Scotland, LOL!

Also take a look at Fred in the Italian one. I don't think they colorized anything else but his face and any exposed skin. Looks like they left his clothes in black and white. I think Ricky's suit was left out too.

I think the Scotland one looks the best because of the colorful outfits and the décor which is so bright and full of color that you are just awed by the LOOK of it all, I know I was.

My copy just arrived today!

Im sure Lucy and Desi are some where smiling, seeing that the show has come full circle  in its preservation and is now revived in vivid technicolor

I can't believe how beautiful, crisp and clean the entire show looks. It looks as if the show was shot in HD in 2013!!

Im sure new viewers will look at this and think OMG ORIGINAL COLOR FILM OF THE SHOW.

Because it just looks AMAZING.

The colorization is so precise, it gets your mind off of the idea of the whole thing being originally shot in BW-

And the transitions between the scenes in color and BW is nice to see together, you still get the experience of seeing those funny classic moments as we all first had, but coming back to a vibrant picture after commercial breaks, brings the show back to the gorgeous vibrant revitalization. So you get the best of both worlds.

Imperfections are so hard to notice and focus on because of the pristine and clear quality. The set looks authentic and realistic.

I can not imagine the work that went into this. Its perfect.

Just perfect. The final scene with the tree is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!. Screen caps can not prepare you for it. Its really gorgeous. It gives a breath of life to the show and presents an entirely different feel to the show. Almost as if its re-birthed! lol .

Theres no spots or bad image quality whatsoever. Everything looks HD and perfect.

Regarding the broadcast in Dec.-Id go ahead and agree with Brock -The Scotland episode should be switched with the grape stomping episode. Though the Grape episode is funny, it doesn't compare to all the bells and whistles of Scotland. I also think it gives the children something to watch after the adults enjoy the sentimental BW moments of the first half. Its a lot more visual and colorful than Grape stomping and it would leave the world gasping for more colored shows.

The sets for the Scotland episode look like it's a staged musical, with extremely fake backgrounds, unless thats the look that they wanted. Plus it was a dream sequence.

I heard somewhere that Bill liked to openly break wind, and Viv was afraid he would do it while they were in the dragon suit, and she'd be trapped.

Because most people prefer a great comedy to a musical I suppose.

Yes the color shows are so amazing. I want more I Love Lucy in color.

Same here, I don't care if it's only a few once in a while as long they eventually do the whole series in color.

Got my dvd copy at Walmart. Love the color. More please...or should we opt for color and 3D at the same time?  Love the Scotland show. I don't think the general public would rather see that one than the Turo Grape Stomping Escapade. Most general public fans recall the "conveyer belt" and "grape stomping" scenes as favorites so of course running those shows will attract the masses more than the dragon's dinner will.

Thats a good point, but I also think the fans can catch those shows any where, at almost any time now days ya know. I think the aim, or goal, is to- not only air I Love Lucy in prime time, but air episodes of the show that are enhanced and enriched by coloring, this being the Scotland episode. The songs, the vibrant technicolor, and the crisp quality will bring so much life to the Dec. 20th show. I think it makes for better viewing too. As beautiful as The Christmas episode was done, it would be some what of an anticlimax visually. Yes GRAPES of wrath is a funny episode, but IMO  it doesn't carry the torch for the second half of the broadcast as beautifully as Scotland can.

I played it for my aunts who came over for dinner.  I started off with the Christmas one, then the Grape stomping, which they laughed uproariously all the way through and then as an afterthought I said, YOU WANNA SEE THE SCOTLAND ONE, IT'S A DREAM SEQUENCE WITH MUSIC AND IS NOT THAT FUNNY BUT IT HAS THE MOST GLORIOUS COLORS ALL THE WAY THROUGH?  After watching those, I played several Lucy shows, Electric mattress, putting in the shower and the tv antenna, they laughed all the way through all of them as they haven't seen these in decades, no reruns of any Lucy anywhere here, i'd say her movies are more popular though, told ya they were a bunch of morons here!  LOL!

Are they showing all three or just the Christmas one?
