EMMY AWARDS, SEPTEMBER 22

The In Memoriam section will be HUGE this year, so may greats from television have passed away in the past year. Two much too soon of course, James Gandolfini of Sopranos fame and Cory Monteith of GLEE. When you consider they go back a year from the telecast, that means Jack Klugman will be included although he passed in December 2012. Jean Stapelton of All in the Family, Bonnie Franklin of One Day at a Time. Barbara Eden's first husband Michael Ansara also. Annette Funicello from Mickey Moose club, soap star Jeanne Cooper who had a mouth on her that made Lucy look tame by comparison. Lisa Robin Kelly from That 70's show. LARRY HAGMAN of Dallas, character actor Dennis Farina. western star Dale Robertson, the great Eileen Brennan of Private Benjamin fame. Conrad Bain of Maude and Different Strokes and even that 21 year old kid from Buckwild, Shain Gandee.

HOW HOW HOW is "Nurse Jackie" a comedy?

Is is just because it's a half-hour?

Didn't they classify the much more whimsical "Desperate Housewives" as a drama? Because it was an hour?

The only thing that comes close to a "variety" series in the definition of how it was originally set up is "SNL".

Was there a good variety show after "the Carol Burnett Show"?

I miss variety shows, afraid the slack has been taken up by talk shows. THEY now feature more bands, singers, comedians that USED TO appear on the old variety shows. I'm curious, how many network shows do any of you watch regularly every single week nowadays? I mean the big four networks, the ones we used to be stuck with before the advent of HBO and specialty channels that we now spend most of our time watching.

If you ever find out the answer to that one, I'd love to hear it. That has perplexed me for years. It's a good show, but hardly a comedy.

Not only THAT but wasn't Edie Falco nominated as best actress in a comedy series????? The Golden Globes lists it in the best comedy or MUSICAL category, LOL!

Desperate Housewives was in the comedy category. At some point during the run they considered moving it into the drama category, but it remained as a comedy the entire time.

Yeah, the funniest scenes on the show were when they'd kill somebody off, funnier than Chuckles the clown I tell ya!
