Luvsbway
I have a postcard of this and other than him building and owning it I don't know all that much about it.
HarryCarter
Desi opened the Desi Arnaz Western Hills Hotel in 1957. It adjoined the Indian Wells Country Club in Palm Springs. The name was changed to the Indian Wells Hotel. Lucy became owner in 1966 and Fred Ball managed the hotel. The profits were put in the Arnaz children's trust fund. Lucy sold the hotel in 1970. Luvsbway
I thought Fred had something to do with it. Never knew Lucy ended up owning it.

Jamie: Thanks SO MUCH for this wonderful ADDED information to add to the chronology info I already have - do you know if it IS, IN FACT, still in operation by someone or another? **** While I'm here, today, I want to say: May GOD Bless each and everyone of us on this day of infamy, 13 years later; and continue holding us lovingly in his hands, until our TIME is up! We, here in Celoron, lost one of our young people, Amy King, who was stewardess on the flight hitting the first tower. On the same flight, was her fiance, a steward; together in forever..

Neil
Do you have the rest of it? It's a little odd Lucy being referred to as "Morton" Found this contract on Facebook. I've had this ad for a long time.

C L A U D E
O M G all the Lucy mentions in all of the books I bought in the past month which I read while being away from here as my computer went bonkers. My faves were the William Pailey and Don Hewitt one of 60 Minutes. Others only had little blurbs on her like the one on Walter Annenberg and FBI honcho J Edgar Hoover and his boyfriend. Neil
So she DOES do the front loop on the "L". I've seen her sign her name with a standard "L" (when she signs in on What's My Line). I have an autographed picture with the front looped "L" and had assumed Wanda was signing for her. Found page 2.
Luvsbway
The front loop L is from all my research how she normally signed her name. Typically this is not her autograph signature. The L like on What's My Line I understand was adopted during ILL and was to match the heart on satin opening. Sort of a give the public what they know/want. C L A U D E
She was fortunate in the sense that most of her autographs could be just Love, Lucy, saving her lots of loops in the process. What the heck does that legal note pertain to anyway?
Luvsbway
Lucy bought the Indian Wells Hotel from Desi in the 60s. This is an agreement about that.
C L A U D E
Never knew that. Not in any of the many Lucy books either. So, at least that gave him a bit of extra cash to live on.
Neil
Say, whatever happened to the "Life: Lucy at 100" book? "Lucy at 103" would work for me too.
Irene Kampen Tripp
Yeah what happened to that dang book?!
C L A U D E
Every time I see one from LIFE at the bookstores, it's always Sinatra, John Wayne, the Pope, politicians, but I agree, WHERE THE HECK IS OUR LUCY, ONE OF THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED AND BELOVED WOMEN WHO EVER LIVED? re the editors of LIFE all men who don't know how BIG she is?
Neil
They could still get away with "Lucy at 100". Nobody is going to carp "She's 103 if she's a day!" If Vivian Vance can get away with cutting 3 years off her age, I don't know why Lucy can't. Speaking of that, Vivian's newspaper obit listed her YOB as 1913. 1912 was all I ever read before that, 3 years younger than her actual YOB 1909, which wasn't revealed until years after her death. I don't know how many times I saw variations of this in print: "Ball had Vance's contract written so Vivian had to remain 20 pounds overweight as to appear older than Lucy. In actuality, Vivian is a year younger". Thought the contract renewing weigh-in rumor has finally been disproved thanks to the "Dinah" interview, it STILL gets repeated. I don't know how Lucy let her get away with the age thing for so long.
C L A U D E
Maybe that's why Lucy kept complaining about not having lied bout her age when she first started out.
Brock
According to the Daily Telegraph, the latest book from the great Nick Hornby centres around a woman who is obsessed with Lucy: http://www.amazon.com/Funny-Girl-Novel-Nick-Hornby/dp/1594205418/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414170742&sr=1-3&keywords=Nick+Hornby
