Maybe they can get angie landsbury to do it, make her feel better about losing out on Mame. No wait, she's much too old for the part, but she could play the grandmother of the Lucy character.

I've never been able to picture "Jessica Fletcher" as Mame! I bet being asked to play the grandmother to a character originated by Lucy would get her goat though! ...again! :lucythrill:

No, to be fair, the role angie baby originated on stage as MAME was more sophisticated looking that that frumpy jessica fletcher BUT to get her goat, i would have loved to have LUCY get that job, the lady that played Mrs Bouquet or Bucket on Keeping up Appearances later went on to a dramatic series and it would have been great for Lucy to keep working after her many comedies left the air.

Oh it would have certainly been amazing for Lucy to keep working. It would have been interesting to see her as that character, but no doubt she could pull it off! And I completely forgot that Angie originated Mame on stage, but I was actually referring to your remark that Angie would be too old to play Tacy in The Long, Long Trailer, but could play her grandmother! You do pose an interesting idea though. Now I can't get Lucy as Jessica Fletcher out my head!

Well, it didn't HAVE to be the jessica fletcher role, any one that would make Lucy do a drama where she is a smart investigator and could even have some comedic elements in it and God knows she would have been surrounded by her many acting friends who did appear on murder she wrote over it's run which lasted quite a while but not long enough to get that old witch an Emmy award, LOL! I still say the best job for Lucy would have been to voice some children's films or a cartoon series as that way she would not have had to worry about her appearance in her later life.

Calling all Lucy fans, calling all Lucy fans . . . .if you want a treat, go to Lucille Ball videos, type that in in search . . . you will see this absolutely terrific tribute video that amazingly enough has mostly dramatic scenes from Lucy's movie career, the video itself is called Lucille Ball, screen actress and it runs like ten minutes with some dialogue supplied by Sammy Davis, Carol Burnett, Barbara Eden and this stunning music playing in the background, it looks like some tribute that might be done for the American Filom Institute or something, it is so well done, i think it was made by a fan, well, if it was, it was done brilliantly. There are other videos of course, on Lucy's later life, all tributes that must have been supplied to You Tube for her 100th birthday or the 60th anniversary of the show.

Isn't that great? Saw that awhile back and favorited it on YouTube. I believe it was made by a fan and they said they just threw it together. Really good.

Funny, people who have done specials for her or documentaries on her didn't THROW IT TOGETHER half as well as that, LOL! I just spent two hours looking at stuff like that. I just couldn't waste my time with TV's GRIMM schedule, so i opted for these fond memories instead. There was even one on Lucy and gary and i even enjoyed that one, LOL!

I love how no one on here seems to like Gary. I always wondered if I was the only one. :professor:

There are also a few of us here who have nothing whatsoever against Gary other than his caterwauling in many a TLS and HL laugh track.

Would you believe it, i was even going to start a POSITIVE thread on gary but then figured there wouldn't be enough posts, but i will this week as my Christmas gift to Lucy. He had a very tough act to follow, with Desi always being there for her even after the divorce and the kids were THEIRS yet he was a great stepfather. He treated his family well with the money he got through HER, which is what Lucy and Desi did all the time also with THEIR families. He was hated by so many peoople, had very little talent for producing anything, BUT had to contend with being Mr. Ball which could not have been easy. Everybody here knows i ADORE and WORSHIP Lucy, B U T she would be a handful to live with, the comments she has made to both hubbies could melt metal. Part of me always wanted him to play her beau on The Lucy Show as a regular, but the public would not allow that. He made her happy and protected her and held her hand, that almost makes up for his ruining her career with his many bad choices for her and the ones he never even attempted to get for her. He was Jewish and wasn't even allowed to play on the golf course on their property in Palm Springs, what Milton Berle said to his face is only one example of the abuse he had to take in show business. Enough for now.

Imagine being with a woman, the most powerful woman in show business at one point, and she still has loads of contact with the love of her life, father of her children, whom she has since divorced but makes no secret of the fact that she loves him still, to the point that gary said at her funeral, at least they're together now! Just sad. Not to mention the fact that you know you will NEVER accomplish anything in show business as great as what your predecessor has done.

Yep, I don't hate Gary but I see it the way Claude does. He was good to Lucy and her kids but in other areas he was kind of a flop. Lol. I wouldn't have been able to live with him with that obnoxious laughter and lame sense of humor, but Lucy loved him in her own way and that's what's important.

And he was so much younger than her so he kept her happy there, if you catch my drift, that little cougar , always ahead of her time, LOL!

I don't want to catch your drift because there's another mental picture that's been burned into my memory. AHHHH! You know, being 13 years younger he certainly didn't look like it. He looked around her age in the later years. And that was before Viagra so.... :peachonthebeach::lucydisgust:

Yeah, well, there is one minus in there for being great to her family, did he have a choice? BUT, eliminating all her friends from the Desi years hough, now THAT's a minus!

Maybe it was constant haze from those ciggies that made him older faster? They BOTH smoked like chimneys, she died of a heart ailment and he of lung cancer.

Not only that but he collected CARS, watches, was a clotheshorse and loved nothing more than to brag about the latest paintings he aquired or show off his latest aquisition. Obviously, the cars and paintings increased in value so they were more of an investment than anything else.

Yes, I heard how anal he was with his cars, how they couldn't be washed with anything but bottled water and no one could touch it with their fingers. Can't stand persnickety people like that. If I'd ever been around him you know I would have had to irritate the crap out of him. I would've put boogs all over his Rolls. ROFL :marionstrong:

Yesss, can you imagine him wheezing away on top of her? With that obnoxious sounding laugh? LMAO. Sorry, I probably crossed a line there... :lucyshock:
