Jess Oppenheimer, producer, 16 films; creator/writer (“I Love Lucy”) called 'the brains' by Lucille Ball; presided over all meetings and ran the whole show; wrote for Fred Astaire radio program in the 30's; next, gag writer for Jack Benny's radio program; and for many other stars, including Burns and Allen, Bob Hope, and others; in 1948, accepted a script-writing assignment for Lucille's, My Favorite Husband radio sitcom; CBS soon promote him as head writer, producer and director; this venue marked the beginning of his collaboration with Madelyn Davis and Bob Carroll, Jr., and (“I Love Lucy”) history, for which Jess wrote the 'pilot'; created the characters, and produced (“I Love Lucy”), 1953; produced 154 episodes, 1951-56; co-produced 1 episode, 1956; wrote 153 episodes, leaving CBS for the NBC network in 1956; reunited with Lucille in later years on many occasions. Nanette Fabray, Actress.

 

Tony-Award winning stage actress, appearing in many Broadway productions, including Meet the People, Let's Face It and Love Live.

Co-stars with Fred Astaire in one of the best classic MGM musicals of all time, "The Band Wagon."

 

Appeared often on early television, working on now classics like Your Show of Shows, (Sid) Caesar's Hour and Texaco Star Theater.

 

Famous for playing TV mom to some of our favorite TV ladies, including Mary Tyler Moore's mom on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bonnie Franklin's on Norman Lear's long-running One Day at a Time and her own niece Shelly Fabares (The Donna Reed Show) on ABC's long-running Coach.

Other memorable TV appearances included a guest appearance as one of Bea Arthur's adversaries on Maude and as newly-separated Lucille Ball's best friend in the Lucille Ball Special, Happy Anniversary and Goodbye. :)
