Annaleigh
Yup, one of the best people to ever hang around Lucy.Anything is better than Stern.
rickee
You can see the infamous coffee can "light" in the top one (playing backgammon) and in the bottom one, is that Judy Arcudy, Nurse on Duty??? Direct, fun and did her job. Lucy loved her. That was Trudy Arcudi.
C L A U D E
Well, it figures that seeing as Lucy was a no nonsense direct person, she would admire that trait in anybody else. Trudy was a true gem of a person, I'm happy Lucy got one person around her at the end who looked out for her and did her job perfectly. Wasn't Trudy the one who once said she tried to contact Lucy in hospital and wasn't put through as she was considered NOT FAMILY?
Luvsbway
Love those photos. Purple dress Lucy is Lucy the star. Cooking Lucy is like your grandmother cooking holiday dinner. Such a lovely juxtaposition.
C L A U D E
Yeah, I'm glad she ended up with TWO lovely gowns for that Kennedy Center Honor. We never mention the other one, black with those boa feathers she seemed to like so much, but I love them both.
Luvsbway
Here laugh at this time period is always so great.
C L A U D E
She looked terrific on this show but all those performers pretending to laugh was so fake and annoying. I think Lucy's were mostly genuine though.

C L A U D E
That looks like Betty Grable?
Annaleigh
That looks like Betty Grable? And you are correct!
C L A U D E
I was afraid it was too early a picture for Grable.
Will
I love that purple dress. What a classy piece. Lucy looks 15 years younger in that shot. I love the Hasty pudding ones and the one with Trudy. She looks so happy and having fun. The cooking one of Gary and her is great too what fun to see their normal, quiet side. What a great find though some of those pictures aren't Lucy's best.
C L A U D E
Yeah, no kidding, you should see the ones in Brochu's book. At home in the kitchen, without make up, not for publication.
Luvsbway
Does anyone look their best hanging out around the house? Those cooking photos are so interesting because it makes you see how normal she was. And that kitchen wasn't the height of glam.
C L A U D E
Yeah, Lucy saved HER glamor for the screen. I'm looking at Lucy with the big fan, not Stern, but the paper variety, and I have to wonder, seeing as so many shots of the house show the windows open, did they not have air conditioning in that house? I'm looking at Lucy with the big fan, not Stern, but the paper variety, and I have to wonder, seeing as so many shots of the house show the windows open, did they not have air conditioning in that house? I don't think they did have AC. I think I read that somewhere.
Luvsbway
Older houses tended not to have it. I'm sure it was something that would have been added to that house later. CA is nice because of The low humidity and it got hotter in the valley.
C L A U D E
Gary probably thought it was too SPENSIVE to add on in the sixties. He's probably the one who told HER to start getting small paper fans instead.

rickee
Nice pics, is Lucy the fourth from the left in the group picture in the middle? Lucy is actually 8th from the right in the dark suit, in between Harpo and Fred Astaire. Here's a larger shot of the War Bond group and participants: War Bond Tour. They are, left to right, James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, Margie Stewart, Dorothy Merritt, Kay Kyser, Doris Merrick, Paul Henried, Greer Garson, Edward Buzzell, Betty Hutton, Kathryn Grayson, Jose Iturbi, Rosemary LaPlanche, Harpo Marx, Lucille Ball, Fred Astaire, Georgia Carroll, Harry Babbitt, Diane Pendleton, Ruth Bardy, Muriel Goodspeed and Dick Powell.
