C L A U D E
How do you know that's the Quinn of Thailand? I thought it might just be some hostesses at the Thailand pavilion, why else would Lucy be so casual with them. This is from the World's Fair, Lucy Day 1964, I've seen many pics like this but not one so casual.
Luvsbway
This photo matches up to the other one Brock posted. It's from Facts of Life. Her hair here matches up to that. The World's Fair hair is totally different.
Brock
How do you know that's the Quinn of Thailand? ... because she is? LOL I have no idea how to answer this question. The woman has been Queen of Thailand for nearly 64 years now. Maybe Lucy feels she can be so casual because, after seeing her hair up in rollers, they no longer had any secrets? lol ETA: Here's some more info on Queen Sirikit, for anyone interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Sirikit
Luvsbway
Gotta love that entourage standing in the back. Maybe this queen is just more casual. I like your thought process Brock.

C L A U D E
She did say she was a quarter Irish, right? French/English/Scotch and Irish.
Luvsbway
I thought that was the combination.
C L A U D E
The "Scotch" was obvious in the way she handled money, LOL!

C L A U D E
Her mom could look so sophisticated when she wanted, but what do you "SPECT" from a concert pianist?

Luvsbway
I think she wore this suit in Facts of Life.
C L A U D E
Must be an Edith head creation then, Edith was la crème de la crème.
Luvsbway
But this looks late 50s and I don't think they were working together yet. The first dress Lucy wears in FOL I spoted her wearing late 50s.
C L A U D E
But Edith did the clothes for Facts of Life. She even won an Oscar for them.
Luvsbway
I know. I don't think she did every piece though. Same with that LB Bob Hope special. Edith only did the gowns. Stevenson did the rest.

C L A U D E
And when a designer does a movie, don't they have to do absolutely EVERYTHING on the movie, or why would they not ask her to share the Oscar? LOL!
HarryCarter
Edith Head and Edward Stevenson both designed Lucy's costumes for The Facts of Life and both won Oscars for the movie. Several of the costumes had already appeared in Lucy Ricardo's wardrobe. Edith Head was famous for getting credit for work she did not do. One of her eight Oscars was for Sabrina, even though Givenchy was responsible for Audrey Hepburn's costumes. During the studio era, credit for many of the design categories was given solely to the head of that department at the studio. This was the case with Edith Head and Paramount. C L A U D E
Well, thanks for clearing that up. I never understood how someone who looked like HER could win so many Oscars for designing clothes and making stars look terrific, and had so many nominations that even Meryl Streep would be YEALOUS. Luvsbway
Costume designers usually dress oddly. Ever see Pat Fields?
