jab5983
I am still not impressed with the events. Not enough events focusing on Lucy and I Love Lucy's 60th Anniversary. I don't think unknown comedians will help bring people to Jamestown. Lucy fans want to attend Lucy related events. Also think its very disappointing that Lucy's children will not be attending the festival

Magster
Lucy's Lake View Cemetery Tours sounds awful, and does that mean the cemetery has been taken off of the Lucy Town Tours? (In which case, I call BS) I actually think it sounds cool! In addition to Lucy Town Tours (which are great but I've been on them so many times I could recite them!) I'll also be checking out the Lake View Cemetery tour. Not to sound like a weirdo who gets a thrill out of walking around cemeteries, but Lake View Cemetery is a VERY beautiful and historic cemetery! In 2002, the first year I went to Jamestown for Lucy's birthday, our Lucy Town tour guide took us to LVC (this was a few years before Lucy was moved there) and in addition to showing us the Hunt family plot, he showed and told us stories (some historical, some folklore) about a lot of the other graves. It was very interesting! Last summer when the festival was cancelled and there were no bus tours, my dad and I went over to the cemetery early in the morning to visit Lucy's grave and walk around. MANY significant families/people important to NY state and/or American history are buried there! I was a history major in college so maybe that's why I find this stuff interesting, but I'm actually excited that the Center is offering this! But hopefully it won't be lame. The first year we went to Jamestown we did the Lucy Town Tour, but when we went the second time I made a list of all the places I wanted to see and we did that on our own time without having to worry about a schedule. And I guess that's how I'd rather visit the cemetery. Sure, it means I have to do some research, but thats half the fun! So I guess I shouldn't have said it sounds awful, just that I'd rather tour it myself.
leenorman
I think it is a separate walking tour through the cemetary which takes you, in addition to the Hunt-Ball plot, to various other Lucy-related and notable graves within the cemetery. Joyce, can you confirm? Brock: I shall 'research' this, and get back to you; but, I'm sure it will be memorable, as ALL Lucy functions are the Museum features. I miss the time I spent volunteering there before things 'went south' within the 'upstairs'. Too much 'self-grown power', without checks and balances, has brought down more than Museums; but, governments, hasn't it? Love, JK
leenorman
Adding what follows to the Chronology, 4/4/11: The Latest From Everything Lucy Website: More Plans Unveiled for Lucy's 100th Birthday - “The Lucy-Desi Center. Jamestown, NY, celebrating Lucille Ball's 100th birthday, with a new tradition: the first annual Festival of Comedy,.August 3-7. Lucille Ball was born on August 6, 1911, and would have been 100 this year! There will be grape stomping; a Lucy look-alike contest; the Guinness Book of World Records will be on hand to count how many Lucy's show up; and the Center, taking the celebration into a new direction. Journey Gunderson is executive director. She said from now on the Center's focus will be on on Lucille's true legacy of laughter. 'Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, their true intention and hope for legacy was that it would breathe on in living comedy - progressive and contemporary, as they were in their time,' said Gunderson. 'So, we've adopted a new vision and revised identity under which to do business.' The Lucy-Desi Playhouse and the Museum will remain in operation. Gunderson says it will now be under the new banner - Lucy-Desi Center for Comedy. - the new mission this year, is bringing in comedy legend, Joan Rivers, to headline the festival. Joining her is comedienne, Whitney Cummings. Gunderson says Lucille would approve. 'Her vision for legacy was to help people into comedy; help them on the way up,' said Gunderson. In the future, the Center will be showcasing new talent throughout the year. It also plans to partner with colleges to host comedy seminars and workshops to train future comedy stars. And she says Jamestown will one day be home to the first true Comedy Hall of Fame. "The bricks and mortar plans are definitely underway. We've actually gotten some architectural mark-ups of what is could look like here in Jamestown," said Gunderson,“ posted this date in 2011. Oy friggin vey, the idea that Jamestown could EVER be considered the true home of the Comedy Hall of Fame is ridiculous, now THAT's really FUNNY! The ONLY connection to comedy it has is Lucille Ball was born there. The only likely places that could host such a venue would be New York or LA and she established her comedic credentials in LA, not Jamestown. I think the only reason they still have some Lucy events is because its her 100th bday. I have a feeling next year if they even have a fesitval it won't involve much Lucy
Brock
Mystery of the Day -- Why are the tickets for the available events so far being sold by the Reg Lenna Civic Centre rather than the Museum? The Reg Lenna hasn't sold tickets for the Jamestown events in YEARS, with the exception of Lucie's last concert and Thank You For Asking.

Mister Hepburn
In the direction they're headed, I have no interest in supporting them. I understand them wanting to expand, but this is silly and, in my opinion, very seriously misguided. Too bad they used money for mark-ups instead of using it toward something for the festival. As Hazel is rumored to have slept with the mechanic too. Then there's the nursing home tour, with interviews with all surviving members of the ILL series. Anybody over 100 gets in free and gets a set of Lucy/Desi salt and pepper shakers.
