In late 1988/early 1989 I started collecting autographs and writing the classic stars I loved, aware many of them wouldn't be around much longer. One of the first ones I wrote was Lucy. I had a penpal at the time who I traded clippings and stills with, he didn't really collect Lucy but liked her and sent me some wonderful things like a 1939 original still from FIVE CAME BACK and a few other things in trade for stuff on Natalie Wood and others. I in turn made him a photocopy of the star address list I had so he could also collect autographs. About a month before Lucy died (and still no response from her to ME) I got a letter from him estastic about having Lucy signed a photo for him! I felt like Lucy Ricardo at the end of LUCY'S ITALIAN MOVIE! (He hedged his bet though and sent a still for her to sign, stupid cheap me just sent her an SASE hoping she'd send me one of her freebies as she was said to do.)
