HarryCarter
My memory is that "Mame" filmed from January to June of 1973, making Lucy a MERE 61 at the time of filming. I wish some PUBLISHED AUTHOR would write a book about the filming of Mame...(hint...) because it seems fascinating to me. There are many things that don't make sense #1 (and this is only one of many) being the fact that the release was delayed until "Easter-time", because they wanted to do another edit. I'd like to know what they changed. Some have written that the reason was that Warners didn't have much faith in the movie, yet they gave it big build-up with Radio City, covering the big Cinerama dome with an Easter bonnet (why??), a fox hot in Atlanta, speakeasy party in Chicago, even a Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavor "Peachy Mame" with the album cover art (Lucy on the moon) hanging from the B-R ceiling. I don't know where that put the filming schedule for HL's 6th season. Maybe some episodes were done before "Mame". Some of those early episodes had a sloppy feel to them, so maybe they were rushing them out immediately after Mame. You'd think she would have wanted some sort of break. All I do know is that "Lucy Meets Lucy" was filmed sometime during the latter part of December 1973. And doesn't she mention just having done the Frankie Avalon episode when she's on that Merv that features the first clips of Mame? The Merv show was done in Oct or Nov 73. As far as "Lucy, the Peacemaker" was filmed on July 12, 1973, according to filming attendee Michael Stern. That should have been the third episode filmed for the sixth season. Neil, do you remember when the episodes you saw filmed during season five were?
Mot Morenzi
You'd think with another year behind them they would've spotted the PersoNNNEl goof by now. Quality releases MPI may do, but not quality proof-reading!

Mister Hepburn
Uh, was agreeing with YOU if you go back and read what I actually wrote! And I wasn't really calling anyone names, just shared what I would have liked to say if I were going to say it in lieu of your more "generous" interpretation. But frankly, the criticism on how fast, how slow, how this, how that these things get cranked out wears thin very quickly with me at this point since I know the folks who're working on them and how much time, effort and dedication they're putting into trying to put the best product possible out there and yet not everything is in their control so it can be pretty frustrating for them, too. So, give it a rest! They're announced, their coming out, show a little appreciation! They'll be worth the wait. Over and out! I knew you were agreeing with me, I just meant the "idiot" remark might be a little harsh. However, I agree with you. I'm not sure where the sense of entitlement to these shows comes from...and the impatience is even more baffling.

Hey, at least they're coming out, as i always knew they eventually would. And i'm sorry but it means lots more to me to anticipate and be kept waiting like this. HarryCarter
When MPI got the rights to put Here's Lucy on DVD in 2008, they couldn't start releasing the DVDs until late 2010 because of the rights were still tied up with the Best of Set that came out in 2004. We should be thankful that MPI was able to sort that out and start releasing the shows a year and a half ahead of schedule.

And wasn't it fan bullshit that got to Shout! and disinterested them in any further Lucy-related releases? I remember a lot of angry posts over at Tom Watsons' message board pertaining to the release when it was announced as well as fans twisting the words of someone who had something to do with the production of the Best Of set... I believe they claimed that music rights played a large part in not releasing any additional sets. I believe it was also stated that it was unlikely the show would ever be released on DVD for that reason. See how lucky we are!
Magster
See how lucky we are! I agree! I know this sounds weird but I don't mind waiting and I actually love anticipating all of these great releases. I remember when I first became a Lucy fan and started collecting her body of work, a lot of my I Love Lucy episodes were taped from TV because I couldn't even get all of them on VHS! I had to hunt for The Lucy Show, poor quality public domain episodes at that, and I never even saw Here's Lucy until Claude included an episode on a tape he made for me. I remember even four, five years ago when it seemed like a long-shot to get all of Lucy's TV shows on DVD. We are so lucky, too, that not only are these DVD episodes in pristine condition, but the sets come with such fantastic bonus features! I, for one, will feel a little sad when we no longer have new releases to look forward to!

EXACTLY Maggie, then we'll look forward to her guest appearances on game shows and talk shows and other people's shows too, there is so much material OUT THERE that there will always be long lost this or that to get. That should have been the third episode filmed for the sixth season. Neil, do you remember when the episodes you saw filmed during season five were? I was there in September of 1972 around the middle to end of the month. "Blind Date/Don Knotts" was first and "Franchise Fiasco" was next but I don't remember if it was the next week or two weeks later. I'm pretty sure it was on the same trip but not 100%. The other one I saw was "Cops and Robbers" (season 6?) on a quick trip to LA. I honestly don't remember why I took this trip or when that would have been, but "Happy Days" had started airing a couple months earlier because I visited the set. (I THINK this was the same trip, but maybe not). I had not seen the show and was chit-chatting with the actors Donny Most and Anson Williams and had no idea who they were. They were both soft-spoken and unassuming, so it was a surprise to see them when I finally saw the show. This was when "HD" was a single-cam, no-audience filmed show. I saw a scene filmed with Amzie Strickland (before I knew who she was; from "Fashion Show") in which she visited the house was nonplussed by the presence of an African-American. This happened because Jerry Paris visited my school and during his talk invited anyone from the class to come down to LA and watch the filming. To take advantage of his "invitation", it turns out you had to be very persistent. I must have called the studio 15 times; and when he finally took my call he was very annoyed, because I'm sure the secretary said "you better take this, because this guy is driving me crazy". Paris was nice to me once I got on the set. Even asked my opinion of the scene! During Paris's talk back in Portland, shy as I was, I forced myself to ask during the Q/A about his experience with "Burtons". Looking back, it's amazing how lax security was, because after leaving the HD I spent the day wandering around the Paramount lot in and out of soundstages watching filmings and rehearsals. (I had done the same thing at Television City and Universal). If Danny thomas had been auditioning for chorus boys, I could probably have joined in! I, for one, will feel a little sad when we no longer have new releases to look forward to! When it comes to Lucille Ball, no doubt about it - there will be more releases of her work (which may include her short-lived Life with Lucy series). With me, it will be a sigh of relief once The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy are finished on DVD as that means we fans will no longer be at the mercy of the networks - wasting our time pleading and/or convincing them to air her programs, getting upset after learning her programs were pulled from the schedule without any notice, ect. We will no longer have to go to great strengths in searching for episodes that are rare or "lost" - as they will all be available in unedited form on DVD (at least when it comes to her first four television series). We have come so far and we are almost to the end. I definitely will be celebrating.
