Maureen O'Hara still going!

It looks like despite her 92 years and some short term memory loss, the indomitable and still beautiful Maureen O'Hara is scheduled to make a final appearance at a John Wayne festival in May. She may be slowing down and after the Wayne event she wants to spend her total retirement with family and friends. Maureen now resides in Boise, Idaho with her grandson.

Wow, she still looks as stunning as ever. The only thing i question . . . why on earth her final appearance is at a John Wayne tribute. This woman accomplished enough great work on her own that she deserves her very own tribute, say at Lincoln center or something. With clips of all her great work INCLUDING all those movies with Wayne.

It's wonderful she's appearing at this event, but it's bittersweet that she's planning this as her "farewell" to fans. I didn't know she had made the move to Idaho, but after reading the story linked at the bottom of the article you posted, it's not hard to see why. It's a shame that something like that has happened. If she's now living with her grandson, do we know where her daughter Bronwyn figures into this?

I think it is very apt for Maureen to make her final appearance at a John Wayne tribute as I think she herself thought these times were the best of her life and probably wouldn't mind being remembered for in the long run. (Also it will make it official -- when it's time, it's time and I think Maureen would like to go out, officially, with some style. Plus the fact that with the death of Harry Carey Jr in December, she practically the last of the John Ford Stock Company, and I think the Duke fans will send her off royally (wish I was one of them there!!)

I might add that the bluray release of "The Quiet Man" is like, today -- probably trips back to Ireland might be too much these days for her and a quiet life with her grandson (and I assume his family) will keep her mind active and not be stranded in a rambling house in Dublin or a lonely apartment in LA -- when you're 93, it doesn't hurt being looked after by a loving family.

Many consider the fact that Ernest Borgnine's family looked after him so well (helped him live 25 years longer than most of those he worked with during his heyday) and helped him keep working, kept him going to practically the day he died at 95 last year -- I think Maureen might be of the same mind, but not always going back to the past, but lkeeping an eye on the future as well. Also Maureen was a conteporary of Lucy's as well (both were in the Hollywood studio system at exactly the same time), both firery redheads -- both, one of a kind.

It turns out the John Wayne festival was not Maureen's Farewell Appearance after all! The actress has planned a public party for 93rd birthday next month with special film screenings and a meet and greet in her new hometown in Idaho:

Meanwhile, her legal battle with her former PA continues: http://www.irishcent...-216342471.html

Maureen is the subject of an extensive new biography coming out in early November:

I'm looking forward to this one for an in-depth, balanced view. Some of Maureen's memoir from 2004 was...well, when I finished the book I had more questions than answers.

Maureen just likes to keep her fans interested.
