Another Here's Lucy Holiday Episode

Recommended Posts

I don't think this one would make it past "Standards and Practices"....

"Lucy Stuffs Harry's Turkey"

Harry is going to impress Bunny Fleetwood with a string of pearls and decides to surprise her by putting by putting each pearl into an oyster and have the waiters/penquin handlers at the club serve her an oyster dish.

Meanwhile Harry has committed the Unique Employment Agency to supply turkey dinners for the Los Angle-ees Soup Kitchen and delegates the entire project to Lucy and Kim.   Lucy decides to use Vivian's recipe for "good old oyster dressing" but Ernie the butcher is out, telling her he sold the last batch to Harry.   Knowing Harry is on a date with Bunny, Lucy and Kim gain entrance through his dog door and "borrow" his oysters planning to replace them when Ernie's supply comes in.

The dinner is a huge hit but Harry discovers the missing pearls when he presents Bunny with a string of raw oysters, and threatens Lucy with bodily harm if she doesn't  retrieve them.  So Lucy and Kim whip up some Jello (sponsor product placement) with a fast-acting laxative mixed in and serve it as dessert. Then they enlist the help of recent parolee Hard Head Hogan to butt each of the diners in the breadbasket, provide them a clean pair of undergarments and sift through the results in a scene reminiscent of the cakes in "Lucy's Contact Lens".

Bum #1: Sid Gould.  Bum #2: Herb Vigran. Arthur: Milton Berle (cameo).

I don't remember Harry ever dating anyone except for Bunny.  "Franchise" is pretty late in the HL run, but why not have Harry's romance as a thread for future episodes?

If Here's Lucy had had a summer run, they might have shown this one around July 4th:

"Lucy Turns Harry Red, White and Blue"

Harry is about to make an Independence Day speech for the DAR when the organization's secretary (Elvia Allman) accuses staunch conservative Harry of subversive leanings, presenting an old voter registration form with Harry's party affiliation.   Suddenly Lucy remembers that years ago unbeknownst to anyone, she signed them all up as Communists to appease her socialist grandfather (Paul Winchell in the flashback scene).  Lucy, Harry,Mary Jane, Sam, Vanda and the entire Canary Club are escorted to Washington to answer to the House Committee on Un-American Activities, but Lucy plan is to sway the committee by staging a big patriotic musical revue.

Unfortunately she selects songs from 'Meet the People" which only gets her and the gang into more trouble.

Senator Joseph McCarthy: Richard Deacon.  DAR President: Dorothea Walburg

"Together for Christmas in July"

Lucy Carmichael and her children reunite with Viv and Sherman in Hawaii to celebrate Christmas in July. It isn't long before the old disagreements resurface. Lucy wants a green palm tree, Viv wants a white one. Lucy wants white lights, Viv wants colored lights. Lucy wants the suckling pig to be stuffed with chestnuts, Viv wants oysters. Lucy wants the luau to be held in the evening, Viv wants it in the afternoon, and so on. Tensions finally boil over when Lucy "accidentally" knocks Viv's tree into the bonfire, resulting in an all out muumuu tearing war. A giant wave douses the flames and the women's tempers, and everybody shares a drenched hug to celebrate.

I'm embarrassed to say that it wasn't until I saw an Australian movie 5 years ago that I realized your season were opposite!   There was a sunny outdoors Christmas celebration in the movie.   Since everything is opposite, would you sing Silent G'Day?

BTW, I wish I could remember the name of this movie because it was very good but VERY tense.  It had a plot similar to "Body Heat" or the Cohn Brothers movie "Blood Simple" where misconceptions result in the wrong people getting murdered.

Will your boyfriend have any idea what the title was?  Seems to me it was a one-word title (but could be wrong about that).

Sorry, it's not ringing a bell for either of us. Any more details you can recall?
