Lucy Tuesdays

Recommended Posts

I kind of wish I could have been around for Nick@Nite's heyday. Now they play shows like How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Wife and Kids, and The George Lopez Show. I remember when those shows were originally on and it makes me feel old! And I can't even legally drink yet!

I fondly remember Nick @Nite's block party summers. Tuesday was their devoted Lucy night for a few years, as I recall. There was also Munster Mondays, Bewitched Be-Wednesdays, Happy Days Thursdays and Jeannie Fridays.

Strange for us older fans, as Lucy was ALWAYS associated with Mondays.  I think to this day CBS always has their best comedies on that night and most times in HER time slot too.

You've got a ways to go before you're allowed to feel old, kiddo!

Saturdays was called (I THINK) "A Whole Lotta Lucy" from 9 to 11.  I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show and then a Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.

Nick at Night was wonderful in the beginning.  The dug into vaults to show series that hadn't been seen for years: They ran "Ann Sothern" and followed it with "Private Secretary".  They even dug up single-season shows and ran those.  Like Lucy's 1964-65 competition "Wendy and Me", George Burns comeback with Connie Stevens aa a Gracie-like role.  (proving again: there's only one Gracie).  I believe that was the only time in Lucy's entire broadcast history up until LWL that a rival network ran a sitcom against Lucy. (unless "The Dennis Day Show" was a sitcom and and not a variety).

I Love Lucy was added in 1992 with some fanfare (including a lot of press coverage) and was shown in primie time UNEDITED at least for a couple of runs.  I don't know when TV Land took over NickatNite's programming model.  Was this 1992 debut on Nick or TV Land?

Before Nick there was "HA" the comedy network.  They ran The Lucy Show along with a wonderful "Lucy in a Minute" ad that I have somewhere and will try to post.

Once a network starts running "Full House", you know it's a slippery slope to Silver Sppons.  Thank goodness we have MeTV and Antenna now.

But isn't there room for a channel that specializes in shows from the 50s?  The hold-up could be transferring some of those 35mm to video.  Shows like "Topper" were in syndication for so long (via 16mm) that it's possible the 35's no longer exist.

Wow, no wonder you guys RAVE about that network and it's schedule.

HA was the first time I ever saw The Lucy Show and watched it every afternoon.

TV Land did a 1 time run unedited when it debuted.

There was also a week on Nick where they ran rare stuff too. It's the first time I saw LWL because they ran the first episode. They ran a Here's Lucy that week too along with the Time Element from Desilu Playhouse complete with Desi introduction.

Wasn't the Here's Lucy they ran "The Carters Meet Frankie Avalon"?  Lucie's impersonation of Cher is good but I remember the episode as being awful.

I think that was Jerry Fogel's first TV exposure since he and Lucy shared a kangaroo suit.

I forgot that N@N did the only ever LWL rerun in history. That's another major credit to them, no matter what you think of the show. On that note, how is it possible to have the unaired episodes of LWL? I get that the whole show ran in other countries but wouldn't they have captions or be subtitled?
