chedderchester
Why did they like that name so much? The owner of the pizza parlor in "Generation Gap" was named "Irving" The baby chimp in "Helpful Mother" was named "Irving" They mentioned the name "Irving" a few times in Season 4 (I can't remember which episodes!) I think there was another Asian guy named Irving and it could've been the same guy from the pizza parlor.

I assume the Borscht Belt writers found it funny. It's not just on Lucy.

PuttyNose
Names like "Irving", "Herman", "Sydney", etc. usually indicated men who were dweebs, nebbishes, schlemiels, schlemazels, or yutzes. Translation: NERDS!
