HarryCarter
Don Pardo, the legendary voice of Saturday Night Live, had died at the age of 96. It's the end of an era. I can't imagine what SNL will do next month. Veteran television and radio announcer Dominick “Don” Pardo, best known as the voice of Saturday Night Live, has died. He was 96. Pardo’s daughter, Paula, confirmed the news to CBS Radio. Pardo retired from NBC in 2004, but continued to provide the introductions for SNL — most recently, pre-recording them from his home in Arizona. He had only missed one season of SNL — the show’s seventh — giving him a longer tenure than even Lorne Michaels (who stepped away for five seasons). “I can’t imagine the show without [Don],” Michaels once said, “and as long as he’s there, I stay young.” Pardo — a 2010 Television Hall of Fame inductee — also lent his voice to game shows The Price Is Right, Jackpot and Jeopardy! He and iconic entertainer Bob Hope were the only two people to have lifetime contracts with NBC. http://tvline.com/2014/08/18/don-pardo-dies-dead-saturday-night-live-announcer/
C L A U D E
A small tribute I hope. Well, I guess he's our number three after Robin and Lauren, they always seem to go in threes, don't they.
Mot Morenzi
Geez, SNL will never sound the same again.
Brock
I can't imagine SNL without Mr. Don Pardo. :( Even in the instances when he had been ill in the past, the "Faux" Pardo they trotted out was just jarring and seemed... wrong. R.I.P. Don.
FreddieMertz
RIP. He's been in more SNL episodes than anyone else. For a couple of years they used a different announcer in the early 80s and that seemed pretty jarring.
C L A U D E
I know, same thing that happened on The Price is Right, you get used to a familiar voice, one that is just perfect for a show and then, it's gone and things are just never the same. leenorman
I know Bob Barker was popular; until the big sex 'take-down' by a couple of his 'hostesses'; but, Drew Carey has definitely, in my humble opinion, found his 'nitch' - he's warm, funny, and accepts a hug now and then . . . frequently. Bob always loked horrified when they came lunging at him! Drew Carey is someone I NEVER watched; not even once; until PIR! He's lost weight and improved his health; and I find him enchanting. Watch it every chance I get....
Luvsbway
When I was interning on his show back in 99' he struck me as a very shy person, reserved but also very nice. Drew that is not Bob. PIR wasn't taking interns that year. I did hear how to handle a medical PR situation about Bob from his PR guy in a publicity class I took. C L A U D E
But I wasn't talking about Drew, Joyce, I was referring to their old announcer, I forget his name but his COME ON DOWN was a big part of the show. And he passed away. I think I read that even Don Pardo announced the show for a little while. I agree that Bob was a letch and Drew is just fine as host, never saw that one coming. I've also started watching the show again after many years and it's still got IT! I think it's timeless like LUCY.
Brock
Rod Roddy is the name you're looking for. Also announced "Soap"
C L A U D E
Oh yeah, that's it, wore glasses and his voice was just perfect for the show. He left when he passed too huh?
Taylor
Who are they gonna get now?
Brock
They need to get someone as iconic as Don Pardo. Is James Earl Jones available? lol
Luvsbway
Could also go with Morgan Freeman.
Brock
A great article on Don Pardo: http://www.salon.com/2014/08/19/it_didnt_come_alive_until_you_heard_his_voice_lorne_michaels_on_the_epic_legacy_of_snl_announcer_don_pardo/
FreddieMertz
I say Karl Kassel, the former Wait Wait Don't Tell Me announcer should be the replacement.
HarryCarter
I wonder if they will have Steve Higgins be the announcer. He is the announcer on The Tonight Show and produced of SNL. Higgins usually acts as announcer for all the talk and game show sketches they do on SNL.

Excuse my error; as for announcers, I always LOVED Rod Roddy, I think his name was; he was the LOUD DRESSER, wasn't he? Guess my reading skills ain't what they used to be; nothing else is either!!!!! tee hee Loving you, JK
C L A U D E
Hey, join the club, I could start a thread on things I misread on a regular basis. Now I've added FLOATERS that really hinder my vision a lot.
HarryCarter
Darrell Hammond has been confirmed as SNL's new announcer. He will not be doing a Pardo impression.
C L A U D E
When I watched the premiere last Saturday, I noticed his not being there right away, he was such an integral part of that show, we miss you Mr Pardo.
Shane91
Alan Kalter will be out of a job soon when Letterman retires, I love Darrell Hammond as a cast member, but I am not sure yet whether he is a good replacement for Pardo.
